Has anyone else noticed? It seems that everywhere I turn at the moment I’m seeing bumps. And no, I’m sure it’s not some weird psychological thing to do with wanting my own bump. Uh-uh. No.

Anyways, it’s not just here, but Down Under as well. Two of my friends are having babies this year and I have thus produced two little Tulips.

One in Pink:

Pink Tulip 1

For the pink baby due this month, this is Cool Fire and Pansy Golightly.

and one in Green for the green baby undetermined baby, due in October. In Happy Forest and Spring Tickle.

Green Tulip 1

Pink baby gets a cute little tie as per the original pattern:

Green baby gets a non-determinate kitten button and loop closure:

I started the i-cord in the same place but continued all the way around the neck edge and then finished with about an inch extra turned and stitched down at the end.

Two great things about 2-colour Tulips: Firstly, you only have to choose two colours (if you know the DIC range you know that’s a bonus) and it’s a bit cheaper than buying the kit with all the different colours, secondly, you can run the yarn down the seams and don’t end up with a billion ends to weave in afterwards!

And a couple more pics just cause I think they look so cool.

Every baby I know is now getting a two-colour Tulip, unless someone comes up with an even cooler, faster pattern.

They are beautiful. The I-cord edge will be soft round the neck.

  2. Kai says:

    They’re both lovely!!

  3. Kate says:

They are both lovely, but I *adore* the colours of the green one. I wish certain people would hurry up and have babies so I can knit tiny clothes as well. :-(

  4. Roo says:

They are gorgeous. I’ve got six bumps due to close friends before the end of the year. That’s a pattern to add to the list!

  5. Kate/Massachusetts says:

Well, I did it. I just purchased this pattern and the adult version as well! I love your sweaters! I don’t recognize the yarn you used by the color names. Can you please post what the brand name of the yarn is? Thanks!

  6. Diane says:

Hi Kate iM, it’s Dream in Colour Classy. THe Pansy Golightly is a newish colour so may be slightly harder to get hold of, but the other three are all from the original colourway.

And Kate in the Graveyard - that comment better not have been directed at me, I’ve heard about the swollen ankles!

  7. Jacqui says:

Oh love the blue/purply one, very nice. Where can I get the pattern from? My sister is due to have a baby in August and I need to knit up something for her and have been looking for an easy baby pattern.

  8. Kate says:

I don’t know what you could mean…! *looks innocent*

(and swollen ankles are the least of your problems!)

  9. Fi says:

At least when they’re at bump stage you still get to do some knitting! Cause once they’re here you’d be lucky to get a couple of rounds of sock in each day ;o)

However, I live in hope I’ll get some time back, and those cardigans are lovely! I was going to start another BSJ but maybe I’ll go for a blue tulip instead :o)

  10. Chantelle says:

They’re gorgeous - I especially like the way the way the colours of the ‘pink baby’ cardy compliment each other so well. And I totally know what you mean about the baby bump boom - I’ll have 2 baby gifts to make before the end of the year for two of my colleagues!!!

  11. Soo says:

Very sweet cardies. I like the two colour version and will keep it in mind for the next bump I come across! :)

  12. Kay says:

Those are so ridiculously adorable. <3 Love them.

  13. Lindsey Ligett says:

Aww, how cute. It really is baby season everywhere, I think. I have a few friends with ones just arrived, and maybe 3 more on the way?? Sheesh, I better get knitting….

I hadn’t seen that pattern before, I’ll have to seek it out, since it looks like a nice one for baby knits. I think it will require an online order….no one near me carries the Dream in Colour yarns or patterns.
