It’s very lucky that there’s no knitting police popping up around every corner forcing us to only have one ‘favourite’ yarn. I could manage a top five I think, but no way is it being narrowed to even two.

Last week Stash had a yarn tasting to present Artist’s Palette yarns. Juliette came down to talk about the business and we all got a little goody bag with samples of her range.

Over red wine and crisps, we knitted away sociably for a couple of hours and then popped downstairs to shop for the ones we had discovered we liked.

Sorry, what was that Ali?? I already did my shopping? How dare you make up such stories about me! Erm… actually, yes. I did my shopping the moment I walked in the door (in front of Ali, as she unlocked it for me, and before anyone else arrived). See, there’s this yarn called Buttersoft DK, and it’s buttery, and soft, and… and pink. And there were eight. And now I have eight :-D

In my defense, I need more jumpers (and more time to knit them) and there were people on the Saturday before the yarn tasting who were just as grabby as me. So I heard. And I’m not the only one, go check out the awesome mittens that Alice is making with this yarn.

So my top 5? (in no particular order) Dream in Colour Classy, The Knittery cashmere blend sock yarn, Dream in Colour Smooshy, Shetland spindrift (or maybe Felted Tweed - that’s a hard one), and now… Artist’s Palette Buttersoft DK.

What’s your top five at the moment??

how dare you. I was NOT grabby. I wasn’t even there. But, er, I sent you to be grabby for me! :)

Haha my top 5: own handspun singles from your class! Hazelknits (fingering AND DK boing boing), Definitely the Buttersoft DK from Juliet, beaverslide dry goods tweedy worsted, and Socks that Rock lightweight.

Hee. Well, you did threaten to take my keys and let yourself in anyway because it was absolutely freezing outside. :)

But yes, I love the Buttersoft DK - I hope more come so that I can make mittens too!

Sadly I haven’t knit enough to really have top five yarns…

Top 5 yarns at the moment are

Cascade 220 - surprisingly soft and sooo cheap!
Blue Sky Alpacas Suri Merino - yum, yum, yum
Sublime Cashmere Silk Merino - better than cashmerino and no synthetic
Felted Tweed - gorgeous colours and goes on forever
    RYC wool/silk

I’ve heard that Artist Palette yarns are really nice!

Oooh that yarn looks so nice! Hope I get the chance to see it in real life.

Hmmm, choosing a top five is hard! Never tried to do that before. The first few that come to mind:

    Eki Riva Baby Supreme
    Handmaiden Camel Spin
    Jaeger Extra Fine Merino

Plus I have a giant stash of other yarns that I haven’t actually knit with, so can’t really comment yet!

  5. Ali says:

    I’d pick

    Mama Blue 100% BFL,
    Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton
    Rowan Cocoon
    Cascade 220
    Bellamoden sport

Though it does change with what I’m working on.

    *has squished the Buttersoft DK*

    *vouches for wonderfulness*

I couldn’t possibly name just 5 and then keep track of that! I am really enjoying O-wool right now, and I’m looking forward to knitting up some navajo plied rambouillet (5 sts to an inch on a #3) that I spun myself. I also like Green Mountain Spinnery, Elsa’s Wool Company, and a few other treats like that. I’ll never admit how many yarns are my favorite; that would just get me into trouble, right?
